EA wird massive Online-Serverabschaltungen vornehmen
Electronic Arts hat nun bekannt gegeben, dass bis zum Ende 2011 die Online-Server diverser Spiele abgeschaltet werden. Der Großteil davon liegt bei Sportspielen, die um 2008 auf den Markt gekommen sind, angefangen haben die Abschaltungen jedoch bereits mit Der Herr der Ringe: Schlacht um Mittelerde II!
Nachdem das Strategiespiel als erstes keinen Online-Support mehr bekommen wird, geht es mit vielen Sportspielen weiter, unter <nderem: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, FIFA 09, NHL 09 oder NBA Live 09.
Anders, als man vielleicht denken könnte, ist das allerdings kein einfacher Schritt für EA. Ganz im Gegenteil, es fällt dem Publisher eher schwer so viele Spiele aufzugeben.
„Diese Entscheidungen, Spiele in den Ruhestand zu schicken, sind nie einfach“, heißt es auf der offiziellen Website.
„Die Entwicklungsteams und das Betriebspersonal stecken ihre Herzen fast so viel in diese Spiele, wie Kunden, die sie spielen und es ist schwer eines eingestellt zu sehen. Wir hoffen ihr hattet viele Stunden Vergnügen mit den Spielen und wir begrüßen eure weitere Förderung.“
